SEGA Japan released HuCAL, a spreadsheet with very good features for SEGA SC-3000 computer and SF-7000 Super Control Station.

This is a very comprehensive electronic spread sheet, yet is extremely easy to use and understand. Its is capable of producing linked bar graphs, complex balance sheets, cash flow analysis, projecting costs etc. Of course nothing compared to actual spreadsheets but for that era it was really complex.

This package includes the following facilities and features (and many more!):

• List information to a parallel/series printer or to the Sega SP-400.
• Equipped with text windows.
• 14 digit high accuracy calculations.
• The number of decimal places and rounding can be specified for each column.
• Automatic insertion of commas into numerical information (eg 123456789 becomes 123,456,789). This can be specified for each column.
• Full on screen text editing.
• Data search provided.
• Data sort provided.
• Macro commands including summation of rows and columns, and all standard mathematically functions (i.e. SIN, COS etc).
• Data protection of each column and row possible.
• The spread sheet can be up to a massive 255 cells (horizontally) by 10001 cells (vertically) depending on the amount of vacant memory space.
• Automatic calculation of row and column totals and Macro commands.

This was a very professional business package, and comes with a 175 page manual. HuCAL opened the door for serious business applications and couldn’t be ignored by anybody using their Sega in this area.
